Practical answers for vessel operators
A clearer course to inspection readiness.
Answers to common questions about working with Jones Marine Solutions and preparing your passenger vessel for an official inspection.
Frequently asked questions
What is an inspection-readiness assessment?
An independent, practical assessment of your vessel’s apparent readiness for applicable inspection requirements. We document observed deficiencies and potential compliance concerns within the agreed scope, so the issues that matter most are identified and can be corrected before your official inspection.
Is your assessment an official U.S. Coast Guard inspection?
No. We provide an independent inspection-readiness assessment. It is not an official Coast Guard inspection, marine survey, engineering evaluation, vessel certification, or regulatory determination. We do not represent or act on behalf of the U.S. Coast Guard.
When should I schedule an inspection-readiness assessment?
Schedule ahead of your official inspection, leaving time to address findings and arrange any outside work. Contact us to discuss your vessel, inspection date, and a suitable starting point.
What should I have available when you arrive?
Provide safe access to your vessel and the documentation relevant to your agreed inspection scope. Have someone familiar with the vessel and its operations available. We can discuss specific preparation needs with you before the visit.
What happens if you identify deficiencies?
Observed findings are documented in your electronic report, prioritized by apparent criticality, and accompanied by recommended corrective actions. We identify the most critical issues early so they can be corrected well before your official inspection. You choose who performs the work, and you may use another qualified provider, but findings we flag as critical should be addressed before inspection day.
Can you correct deficiencies you find?
At your request, we may assist with certain deficiencies when appropriate and within scope. Corrective work is separately authorized and billed at $95 per hour plus applicable parts, materials, supplies, equipment, and direct costs. Some work requires a licensed, certified, or specially qualified contractor.
Do I have to use you for corrective work?
No. Corrective work is not included in your inspection fee, and you are never required to use us. You may select another qualified provider.
Do you guarantee that my vessel will pass its Coast Guard inspection?
No. An assessment does not guarantee regulatory compliance or any inspection outcome. Final determinations remain with the appropriate regulatory authority.
Do you offer follow-up inspections?
Yes. Follow-up / reinspection visits start at $225 per visit and focus on original findings or corrective actions. If the requested scope substantially exceeds review of those findings, additional charges are discussed in advance.
Do you offer Drug & Alcohol Consortium / C/TPA services?
Coming soon. Program details, enrollment information, and pricing are being finalized. Contact us to express interest when enrollment opens. These services are not currently available for purchase.
Where do you work, and is travel included?
We are based in Tampa Bay and support operators along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Travel within 50 driving miles of Largo, Florida is included without an additional mileage charge. Beyond that distance, mileage for the excess portion and applicable travel expenses may apply. Ask about your vessel’s location.
What if I need additional documentation or administrative systems?
Custom policies, SOPs, forms, logs, compliance trackers, and recordkeeping or administrative systems are outside our service scope. If an assessment identifies such a need, we may refer you to an independent third-party provider, with work separately scoped, priced, and contracted.
